Program Description:

This is a new ground-breaking program for students enrolled in broadcasting classes learn how to produce content, work with digital and video cameras, and edit pictures and video using top-of-the-line equipment and software. Students get to work on Dragon Fire Productions crew, which is a student run broadcasting service of Kanawha County Schools. DFP works throughout the community to produce many shows including weekly newscasts, sporting events, concerts, competitions, and parades. The students are involved in every aspect of these productions including on-air and behind the scenes. These productions will air daily on our broadcasting system and various other outlets. Other productions and behind the scenes photos can be viewed on Dragon Fire Productions/SAHS Media’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages.

In our first two years we have been chosen for PBS Student Lab Reporting and have received many grants to help build our own top of the line Radio Station, TV Studio, Film dept., and Editing suites.

Mrs. Trent has 20+ years in Broadcast Technology, teaching at various schools and on the University Level.  She has been nominated for Emmys and Tellys and won a Telly for her work on Secrets of the Valley which aired on PBS.  She was chosen one of the top 5 women filmmakers taking the #3 spot for her film In the Ringer.  She is also an award-winning animator and filmmaker with films being seen all over the world.

Her Broadcasting Background includes being Media Specialist and creating two new shows for WV State University with PBS and ESPN.  She also ran a weekly news show on campus.  Oversaw the TV studio and did the transition to HD and worked closely with engineers to make it a success.  Many of her students have gone on to become TV Producers all over the country, being nominated for Sound Design on the Feature Film Midway and so many other broadcast/film/animators with successful careers. She was also awarded the WV State Journal’s Top 40 Under 40 in 2012.
