***Attention SAHS Red Dragon Parents/Guardians and Students:

Our goal throughout this process is to communicate with you efficiently and effectively.  We will share the most current information as soon as possible.  With that said, please be reminded what we communicate is very subject to change based upon the directives we are given from our governing authorities: The governor, the WVDE, KCS, etc.

*Two important items to update you are listed below-Student Schedules and Clarification on the Three Re-Entry choices:

Student schedules-will NOT be finalized until we have a better idea of how many students have chosen in-person learning, e-learning, or KCS virtual school.  PLEASE disregard what your schedule may appear to be in Schoology at this time, and DO NOT contact your respective counselor until we have communicated to you that schedules are finalized, and counselors are then able to discuss any requests for changes.

Clarification on the Three Re-Entry choices: -We are here to support your choice, and answer any questions or concerns regarding these options to the best of our abilities with the knowledge we have at this time:

1. In person learning (reporting to SAHS to attend classes): will begin September 8th. The first four days will be an “orientation” week where grade levels and/or smaller student groups will stagger what days they enter the school and have classes. The second and third weeks (September 14th-25th) will be “blended learning” with half the alphabet by last name going two days, the other half going two days, and everyone e-learning from home one day. September 28th, we will go to full 5 days per week of face to face for students who have chosen the in-person face to face learning option.

2. E-learning: (completely online learning set up on Schoology by your child’s actual teachers) is an option for everyone. If you choose this option, you must stick with it for a full SAHS trimester. There will be required login times, aligned with the school bell schedule, for students to participate in their courses daily. The student timelines for completing work will be the same for both students who are e-learning outside of school, and for students who are attending school in person.

3. KCS Virtual School: is and has been available to all students. This is a computer-based program, not to be confused with e-Learning. It is self-paced, does not require set login times, but does not include SAHS teachers, and course content and teacher communication will not be on Schoology. Valery Harper is the executive director for KCS students enrolled in KCS Virtual school through courses offered by WVDE and its virtual school teachers.

Here is the direct link to the form.  PLEASE complete August 4th-August 11th so we can proceed with finalizing student schedules as soon as possible.  You are required to complete all back to school forms in order to make your re-entry choice.

For months, Kanawha County Schools administrators and a committee of staff and community members have been working together to prepare plans for the upcoming school year. This evening, the KCS Board of Education approved our re-entry plan. We want to provide you with an overview and additional information, but want you to also know that these plans are all subject to change.

Parents will have three options for fall enrollment for each student (and their selection will last through the first semester). They will begin selecting their student/s’ enrollment tomorrow August 4th and enrollment will continue through August 11th. This will allow us to further plan both districtwide and at each school.

1)      In person five days a week with a staggered/blended entry for the first three weeks to keep class sizes low while we work together to get used to new procedures.

2)      Full time KCS Schoology eLearning (taught by our KCS teachers)

3)      Full time KCS Virtual (this is our program through the State, directed by Valery Harper)

Additional information and details about our district re-entry plan is available on our new Re-Entry 2020 web page at:  https://kcs.kana.k12.wv.us/re-_entry_2020.

We encourage you to read all of the information on the webpage in its entirety.

Thank you for your patience through this process!
