Criteria for Admission

Applicants must be either a junior or senior and possess a minimum unweighted G.P.A. of 3.5 in order to be considered into the National Honor Society.

Applicants must accurately complete an application with required signatures and telephone numbers. Applicants must also complete the essay attached to the application.

Applicants must turn in their application and essay by 3:15 on the due date. If a student cannot meet the deadline, he or she must make arrangements before the due date with the adviser.

All teachers will be asked to evaluate the students who submitted applications and essays in regard to their leadership skills and character by rating each student and providing comments about the students.

After transferring each applicant's information into the tally sheet, the faculty council will then begin to review the sheet(s) and make their selections.

Membership Obligations
Saint Albans High School National Honor Society

Membership in the National Honor Society (NHS) is one of the highest honors that can be awarded to a high school student. Our chapter has worked hard to bring the accomplishments of outstanding students to the attention of parents, teachers, peers, and the community. Our chapter strives to give practical meaning to the Society's standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. The standards used for selection are:

Scholarship: 3.5 unweighted cumulative average
Leadership, service, and character: as demonstrated by activities, a typed essay, and teacher evaluations

Membership, however, is more than an honor. It is an ongoing responsibility and an obligation to continue to demonstrate those outstanding qualities that result in a student's selection. Membership also carries a responsibility to the chapter. If our NHS chapter is to be effective and meaningful, each member must become involved.

As a member, you will be required to:

  • pay one-time membership dues of $20

  • maintain a 3.5 G.P.A.

  • attend bi-monthly meetings after or before school

  • complete three service projects throughout the year
**Decorate the football field for SAHS's Homecoming night and contribute beverages for the Homecoming Dance
**Participate in a community service project in the Spring (members will vote on the service project based on community needs)
**Complete 5 hours of community service individually and separate from school

  • Attend and participate in the induction ceremony in the Spring
