History from 2001-Present

The SBA Bond

In May of 2000 the voters in Kanawha passed a school bond that among other things calls for the complete renovation of St. Albans High School Albans High School (SAHS). The School Building Authority (SBA) gave $3 million for the SAHS project as well. As a result roughly $21 million dollars will be spent on our school during the coming months. The staff and students began making plans for the renovations shortly after the election last year. The Educational Specifications are complete and the architects are working on the final drawings. Much time and effort has gone into this project and it is an exciting time for the entire community. At the conclusion of the 2000-2001 school year the current school will be moving "over the hill" to portables. The current Belvil Elementary will be the site of SAHS. In addition to the Belvil building several portables will be brought in to house the school. This will require some flexibility on the part of the students, teachers and community. Academically we will be maintaining our high standards. One of the positive things about the portables will be the air conditioning. As most of you are aware the fall and spring months can be quite uncomfortable so the added benefit of air conditioning will aid the concentration level in the classroom. Many positive things are occurring at SAHS and the next few years promise to be even more exciting.

The Future

The future is very bright for SAHS. The state of the art 21-million dollar high school is scheduled for completion in early 2003. Below are some possible layouts. To find out more about these renovations, visit our renovations page.
